Any one else enjoying the college bowl season? I know a lot of you want a playoff system, but for the most part, these bowl games don’t disappoint. The Stanford-Oklahoma State was a classic. If you saw Michigan State – Georgia, it was a great game; very exciting. Wisconsin – Oregon went down to the bitter end. The Sugar Bowl last night, I wanted to comment on that game but I didn’t have time to pull out the laptop. Especially the fact that Virginia Tech had that game stolen from them. I guess the Big 10 was destined to win a BCS game eventually.
Many of us want a playoff system. While true a playoff system would make things easier (in theory), the current system really does work. There’s no doubt the best two teams in the country will play in the BCS title game. Besides, there is a playoff system…it’s called the regular season. Teams that perennially play a soft schedule are going to take a loss at some point. If a team can navigate its schedule through a major conference, then come out on top in a bowl game, they should be given some credit.
If there’s a playoff, these great post season games will just be seen as matchups of losers. These are teams that had great seasons.
Frankly, I didn’t want to see LSU get upset and knocked out of the BCS title game. That would have simply meant the best team in the country lost a game.
Here’s something else: I STILL would consider LSU the national champion, even if they lost to Alabama in this game. They already beat Alabama, on the road. If the regular season really has the meaning we believe it should, there’s no way they should have to play them again.
