Mark Davis, the owner of the Oakland Raiders, says “I’m embarrassed, pissed, disappointed and I take full responsibility” for the Raiders awfulness this season. The Raiders were actually better this week having only given up 38 points today. Previously they had given up 42 and 55 in consecutive weeks. With the team getting their @$$es handed to them regularly, they haven’t shown improvement at all this year. In fact, some Raiders fans claim they were a better team under the fired Hubert Jackson.
Of course they were better. They were built by Al Davis for an offensive scheme like Jackson’s. Now they are running a crazy version of the West Coast for some reason. Oakland doesn’t have the personnel to run the West Coast effectively, and I don’t even know why Dennis Allen is attempting to run it.
One thing about good coaching: You don’t get wedded to a scheme. You work with players you have on hand and put them into position to succeed. You run your offense or defense according to your talent. Coaches wedded to a system are ones who rotate around the league after firings.
Good coaches will win with whatever they’ve got.
