Miss Universe’s Proud Parents

Did you see the Miss Universe pageant? Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island won the Miss Universe title. She is the first Miss USA to win that title in 15 years. Even though Miss Brazil is usually number one in our hearts, BSP is extremely happy for Miss Culpo and the rest of the runner-ups. Especially Miss the Phillipines.

Forgive people for ogling Miss Culpo. Her father certainly seems to have gotten over it:

But, really, you go to the beach and see girls in bikinis, you watch volleyball and see girls in bikini. Why wouldn’t men have the same reaction when watching [a pageant]? It’s fine. She’s such a good kid.

He’s so proud of his daughter. When speaking of her future career ambitions, he says:

Olivia loves Boston, but in all likelihood, she’ll end up in New York or Los Angeles. We’ll support her whatever she wants to do.

Which is all a parent should do. I liked seeing Miss USA’s family values show during the pageant.

Of course, there are probably a bunch of crones out there hating on Miss Culpo or anyone else capable of capitalizing on their good looks, smarts, and good nature. BSP says “so what” to you. The governor of Rhode Island and her congressman called to congratulate her parents.

I wonder how come President Obama didn’t call her? I mean, if you can bring a bunch of NFL and NBA players up to the White House (at least 20 percent of whom are criminals), why not a fine upstanding lady who demonstrates family values? I mean, she’s going off for a year to fight HIV.

I suspect that’s a cause those professional athletes will support.

About bittersportspills

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.
