Of course, we love the NFL. The game that is. We don’t love some of the things going on in the league, mandated by the league that don’t add anything to the game. As a matter of fact, we are starting to see the inpact of some rule changes and marketing schemes. They must be addressed. Roger Goodell, the worst commissioner in the four major sports must be addressed as well. Here’s some things we’d like to see eliminated before they destroy the game:
Moving a team to London:
Bad idea. Horrible idea. Terrible idea. Goodell is the main purveyor of this nonsense, but that’s to be expected. Virtually everything BAD in the game today emanates from him. The last thing you want is a team going to London, because every game there is a minimum of a 16-hour round trip. Hey Goodell: You know when American football goes from novelty to routine, numbers go down. I think players should put Goodell on a winged bus to Heathrow (a bad enough punishment as is), tape him to a blocking sled, hit him for 30 minutes and then fly him back. NFL in London: Done. Try Toronto if you want to go outside the US.
End Playstation Football: I have a friend of mine who insists Madden is “realistic”. After he beat the Cowboys 140-0. This is the attitude that’s killing our favorite sport, and in more ways than one. Liberalization of the passing game is making pass interference calls routine, and is allowing defenders to get a RUNNING START towards a receiver. If you run 15 yards and let a receiver have it, it opens him up to big time hits. And when the receiver drops it, it’s going to get a flag for hitting a “defenseless receiver”. Last I heard, those defenseless prima donnas were still football players. This is just my opinion but if you de-liberalize the passing rules, you make the running game important again and you don’t see guys running across the field to lay receivers out. I heard a NFL Radio guy say he didn’t want 7-0 games. Dumbass, when have you seen a 7-0 game in the NFL? A 51-48 game in the NFL isn’t exciting, it’s embarrassing. It’s like defensive players can’t make a living, and the result of your rule changes may have unfortunate results. Brandon Meriweather said:
You’ve just got to go low now. You’ve got to end people’s career. You’ve got to tear people’s ACLs and mess up people’s knees now. You can’t hit ‘em high anymore.
Sounds … good?
Stuff that Doesn’t Matter: Look, my wife is a breast cancer survivor, and so is my sister. But don’t you think it’s kind of WRONG to spend a month in pink … as if you care about breast cancer … while the NFL was suppressing reports of brain injuries to its OWN players?
…the NFL used its power and resources to discredit independent scientists and their work; that the league cited research data that minimized the dangers of concussions while emphasizing the league’s own flawed research; and that league executives employed an aggressive public relations strategy designed to keep the public unaware of what league executives really knew about the effects of playing the game.
The Susan B. Komen thing is just PR…and its PR for a political organization like Komen. How about start giving a damn about your own players, Goodell?
Roger Goodell as Commissioner: Suppressing reports of brain injuries to players. Liberalizing the passing game to compete with stuff like Playstation, but getting your players (even more) beat up. The proposed 18-game season. Not reducing exhibition games. Not allowing fans to bring stuff to games for “security purposes” but really so teams could sell their crap to you at astronomical prices. Worrying about a certain team’s name. Goodell needs to go. NOW. Someone who actually knows something about football and the business end of the sport should be commissioner.
