Did you see the last quarter of the Green Bay – Dallas game? If you’re a Cowboys fan, be glad if you didn’t. Green Bay, after trailing 26-3 at halftime, ended up winning 37-36 on a Matt Flynn touchdown pass. Dallas ended up having Tony Romo throw two picks in the last three minutes of the game, turning victory into humiliating defeat.
While this loss does not knock Dallas out of the playoffs…if they win the last two games, they’ll win that division … they did embarrass themselves. A number of things going on here:
– Dez Bryant went back into the locker room before the game was over … wonder how Dallas is going to handle that situation
– Jason Garrett threw Romo under the bus, by saying he checked out of a run into one of the game-busting picks
– I don’t care about the play calling. If you’re Romo, you can’t throw late game picks, period. He does so with alarming consistency. Remember the Broncos game?
– The guy throwing those picks, Romo, is in the last year of a contract where he’ll make $11.5M. Next season, he’ll make $26.5M, starting a six year, $108M deal.
A number of sports-talk hosts talk about Romo, saying he wouldn’t encounter the heat he gets if the Cowboys didn’t have such a well-known “brand”. They cited of course, Russell Wilson’s performance against the niners last Sunday. It was quite pedestrian, 15-25, 199, 1 TD, 1 pic. If Romo delivered such a performance, they say, he’d get blasted. BSP doesn’t believe that statement. Wilson doesn’t blow games. Wilson doesn’t make the game-killing mistake … multiple times a season.
Fortunately for us Cowboys haters, it’s highly unlikely Jerry Jones will do anything about it.
