LeBron: Not Good, Not Bad

I’m swearing off live basketball. Man, I’m so ready for football season to start, I don’t give a shit who wins in the NBA. I just want it to end.

But something I must talk about is LB James cramping up last night, during his team’s 110-95 loss here in San Antonio. LB James couldn’t finish the game due to his cramping.

You all know I work in San Antonio. This morning at work, guys were holding their legs, screaming. I thought it was laughable, along with the fact LB James was going to put some whipass on the Spurs in Game 2. The Heat don’t lose back-to-back playoff games. If they get in trouble, the NBA sends in the bald, ass-clown Joey Crawford who, for some reason officiates games ending with a Heat win.

Anyway, I thought about Mr. James today. Last year after the finals, I wrote Mr. James was as dumb as a rock.  I’m sorry about that one. Mr. James is no dummy. It was a wrong, and untrue statement. The man has been guilty of bad judgement before but he’s not dumb.

That said, his mistakes are magnified, and the good stuff he does is magnified by an all-too-willing to portray him as the selfless humanitarian sports media.

I give LB James the emotional status of “regular dude, but not quite as mean.” That makes him an average guy. He’s not a Dwayne Wade, who’s just plain mean. Wade goes off and has a fun baby with another chick after breaking up with Gabrielle Union for a minute. Then she accepts it, like almost no other woman would, and no one dumps on her for being an idiot. Pathetic. But Mr. James hasn’t been doing that kind of stuff. He’s not a bad guy. Then again, average guy doesn’t do “The Decision”. The Decision is a no-retreat from, all-time incredibly stupid thing to have done. Here’s some bad shit “The Decision” reminds me of:

The Bachelor/Bachelorette, where you dump people you’ve been banging on national television

Daytime reality TV (Springer/Maury/Tricia/Jeremy Kyle), where people tell horrendous secrets to people who care about them

ESPN SportsCenter, a commercial constantly shilling for Mr. James, making him appear incredibly fake

That’s where Mr. James gets his haters from. You’ll see LB James dunk, and it makes their Top 10 highlights, no matter what. There’s a little saying in show business, there’s no such thing as “bad publicity.” There most certainly is–just ask the now-deceased Michael Jackson. There isn’t a single athlete in professional sports who will do a “The Decision” type show, just because LB James did so and received a tremendous amount of backlash for having done so.

But we also see LB James do things like congratulate the fan for making the shot to win a lot of money. There were haters saying it was contrived but he was truly happy for the guy. LB enjoys playing. He’s a great player, one of the best of all time. But he’s an average dude. He’s not horrible; he’s not the greatest human being on the face of the planet. He’s not a super bag, but we’re not going to pray to him either.

About bittersportspills

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.
