Has anyone noticed South Texas is getting large quantities of rain? Despite the number of dead, injured and property lost … and we feel for those who lost loved ones … we needed the rain, badly.
I think we’ve received about a foot of rain in the last three weeks. To let you know how bad it was with our drought over the past two years, all the rain has finally gotten us to Stage I water restrictions. That’s right, we are still under water restrictions because we were nearing historic lows. Did I say two years? It’s really five but there’s a lot of climate change deniers here. It doesn’t fit their political and religious beliefs. Otherwise, we couldn’t keep giving away our water to corporate interests and saying how great the economy is here. The water company is looking at desalinization as a long-term answer. One of our weather people got in trouble for saying we need a Katrina-sized storm to sit here to break us out of the drought. In fact, we have Medina Lake near San Antonio. Last month, it was at 4% full, now, it is approaching 50%.
Anyway, it’s been raining like crazy here, even right now. We still need the rain, because we don’t know when we’ll get more.
