San Antonio the Favorite?

I’m hearing in sports media locally, 2015-16 season is all over. After the signings of LM Aldridge and David West, San Antonio Spurs look to be a favorite contender to come out of the West. Unfortunately, the thing that made them a team threatening to win it all the last two seasons is not there anymore.

That is, a team full of guys that knew their role and could defend.

LM Aldridge and David West have played in organizations where they were the top options. I’m not sure thats going over well when the players are limited in minutes over a season or even told to rest.

It kind of looks like The Lakers when they assembled the All Star team with Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton. But they were knocked out by a Detroit team with depth, and as important, young legs. San Antonio is trying to bring back Manu, who ran out of gas two years ago. David West is 34. Parker is 32 and has had a series of injuries the past two years. Lets not forget Duncan is 39. And Danny Green, while young, threw up 0 points in a close out attempt against the Clippers. Spurs just brought him back at $11M a year.

The Spurs have gotten better on paper. Lets not get carried away just yet though.

About bittersportspills

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.
