My Total Disdain for the Denver Broncos

I have to go into this post saying I’m an Oakland Raiders fan. I do know Chiefs fans and Chargers fans who hate the Broncos with undying passion. It’s almost amusing to us who know how the NFC East fans feel about the Cowboys; how NFC South fans feel about the Saints and AFC South fans feel about the Colts. The Broncos would be hated even if they were bad. The old Raiders were hated because they would beat your players up on the field. The Broncos are hated due to their insidious nature – salary cap cheating, rule changing (their offense is based on offensive pass interference) and dirty play. The Broncos are one of the dirtiest teams in sports, and if you think I’m lying, watch the number of players who go down playing against them, typically with knee or concussion issues. Like Rob Gronkowski, for example. Of course, you, the fan only see 18 out there (and yes, I know 18 is NOT out there) and think everything is wonderful and oh, this can’t be true. I, as a fan of one of their division rivals, almost don’t give a shit whether they win against them. I just want our players to get out of those games without head or knee injuries.

Here are a few cheap shots I’ll toss out there so you can gain understanding:

Broncos are tied in with the league: How does a team get to play its toughest rivals at home, where they have a huge advantage by playing in high altitude? You suck up to the league. New England, Green Bay, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Baltimore (when they were good) get to travel to Denver. The rest of their home schedule consists of division opponents. They get a bunch of softballs on the road.

Broncos have a gang of dirty players: Aqib Talib. T.J. Ward. Their offensive line

St. Tony loves the Broncos: 18 plays for them, a guy who’s made Dungy appear as if he were a great coach. St Tony was NOT a great head coach, he just took full advantage of a bad division. His one SB title came against a head coach even worse than him.

Bandwagoning: I have to laugh at Broncos fan wearing an 18 jersey saying Seattle has bandwagon fans. Yeah, both of you have been fans of that team for the exact same length of time. Except for those Tebow fans who kept their jerseys.

Broncos fan is one of the dumbest in sports: I was listening to NFL Radio and a Broncos fan named “Liza” calls in. Liza says she’s glad Alton Smith got suspended because it hurts the Raiders. Ok, I’m good with that, I was happy when Von Miller got suspended for cheating. Then she spouts  propaganda, calling the Broncos the “good guys.” The hosts went silent, because they aren’t idiot Broncos fans. There are no “good guys” in the NFL. YOUR team, Broncos fan Liza, is liable to have an Alton Smith on it, because they don’t go looking for “good guys.” They go looking for football players.  Every team has them. Every team wants them. Even if they are being investigated for child abuse. Liza, you know, a “bad guy” the Raiders cut, but your beloved Orange immediately sign and now he’s a “good guy.” Liza, you need a brain transplant; maybe they’ll give you a working one this time. Dumbass.

Hate’s too strong a word, but I have no love for the Broncos or their fans.

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.

  1. I didn’t even mention cheating the salary cap in years they won the Super Bowl.
