Cam Newton is Getting Beaten Up

Just saw the NBC pregame for tonight’s NFC East snoozefest. Cam Newton spoke up about getting hit. Of course, this is the NFL where everyone except Tom Brady gets hit, but Cam Newton is taking a ton of physical abuse without getting any calls. Even St. Tony and Dirty Rodney Harrison agreed with Newton on a particularly egregious hit in the pocket. St. Tony mentioned the official whose only job is to watch the quarterback. He stated there’s no way possible that official could have missed that call.

Many of these broadcasters are saying the reason for the beatdowns Newton is getting is because he’s a “big guy” and he “can run.” We call BS on that. In BSP’s opinion, this is simply the NFL’s message to Cam for the aftermath of the previous season’s Super Bowl histrionics. Cam Newton is going to take hits because he didn’t go along with the P.R. plan. Cam wasn’t a good loser, so Cam’s going to get beat up this season in retaliation. Despite being the NFL’s defending MVP, Cam is viewed as a flash in the pan. If Tom Brady took shots like Newton’s taking this season, the entire field would be covered with yellow linen.

You’re going to cooperate, Cam Newton or you’re not going to be able to remember who you are in 20 years. It’s the league’s way of keeping its players in line.

About bittersportspills

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.
