Denver at Kansas City: The Main Enemy vs The Other Main Enemy

Watching the Broncos and the Chiefs tonight on Sunday Night Football.

As much as I dislike the Broncos, Raiders need them to win tonight. Naturally, the Broncos decided not to show up, even if they need to win in order to reach the playoffs. The Chiefs? They make great plays against the Broncos and I cheer for them, even though I want them to lose. At least they are a class organization. Andy Reid also prepares them for every opponent they play; if you want to see how to beat a team, watch the Chiefs play them.

It’s 21-10 Chiefs late in the 3rd quarter right now. Watching this as a football fan, I’m thinking this game is over. Denver’s offense is awful. They aren’t helping the team. They lack pace. Every play takes a long time to start, then develop. That’s when things like false starts and plays getting killed in the backfield happen. If I were Denver, I’d like to see them go into a no-huddle, just to get some pace going. They aren’t helping their quarterback at all.

In fact, if I were the Broncos, which I definitely am not, I’d consider firing Gary Kubiak. Unfortunately, I think Elway might lean this way too. Kubiak is supposed to be an offensive guru but his offense has in order, made Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiller, Trevor Siemien and Paxton Lynch look like garbage. The defense has kept Denver competitive. It’s kind of like Brian Billick at Baltimore when he was hired as this offensive guru but the offense  looked like trash. Why have an offensive guru there if you can’t score? Sports media talks like Tony Romo wants to go to Denver. Why? So he can run bootlegs and get killed?

Not saying Wade Phillips is the answer either; seasons 1 and 2 are typically very good for his defenses; season 3 is the expiration date. I’d love that guy to have some talent and running my team’s defense in year 1; we’d be a legitimate Super Bowl threat.

Next Sunday, the Raiders will have Matt McGloin going against the Broncos. I still think the Raiders have a chance in that game, despite losing Derek Carr. The Broncos offense is just terrible at this point in time, and if this game goes like it’s going, they’ll have only pride to play for this season.

About bittersportspills

I love sports. I don't love the hype, homerism, ratings talk, self-important egomaniacs, bias or any of the other nonsense you get with the national media. Nor will you get the two clowns on sports talk radio who stage phony arguments. It doesn't make it entertaining. It makes it time to turn on your iPod and jam instead of listening to white noise generators. This is the sports blog for you, the ones who don't like everything Los Angeles or New York. Just because the sporting media is based there doesn't mean we have to like their teams. We do treat them fairly, though. That means if one of those cities has an average QB who plays particularly well...we'll note it. If they're garbage, we'll say so. Instead of crying "why, why, why" like a certain sports media homer did in his radio broadcast. This isn't my job...I have a real one. Nevertheless, I'll post here when I make an observation. Common sense in sports is nearly dead. Now we're attempting to bring it back.
